Sticker Shock

As I mentioned in my earlier post, we finally got a crib for Miss Olivia. Sunday morning I put it together while David and his dad went for their weekly golf game. When the boys returned, they were admiring my handy work when David's dad asked "did it come with a mattress?"

No crib comes with a mattress. Of course you have to purchase that separately.

Before now, I have never had a reason to look at baby mattresses. Today I went to get a mattress for the crib and had sticker shock. Can you believe that they sell baby mattresses for up to $300? The ironic part is they all felt the same. There might have been a few that may have been slightly firmer than others, but not by much. Not enough in my book to tell a difference. And we're not even talking about these were organic or anything. Just plain plastic.

I'm sure forty years from now I will be hearing it when Olivia complains of back pain and I'm sure some doctor will tell her that it is because her parents went for the cheap baby mattress.

Oh well, I guess I'll have to live with because Olivia got the $70 baby mattress which happened to be the cheapest they had. I refuse to pay $300 for a baby mattress. Sorry, Olivia.
